About me
Marilyn K Farias, clarinetist, performs a broad range of repertoire, with a particular focus on contemporary music. She has held positions in ensembles including Collegium Musicum New York, Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, Rutgers Wind Ensemble, NYU Orchestra, NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble, NYU Baroque Ensemble, the Whitewater Symphony Orchestra, Whitewater Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Whitewater Chamber Orchestra, Monroe City Band (WI), as well as various chamber groups, musicals, and more.
Marilyn has performed in world-renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and the DiMenna Center, and has premiered hundreds of new works, often collaborating as both a guest artist and recording artist for the student composers at New York University.
In 2025, she won First Prize in the John-Philippe Rameau International Music Competition. She has also participated in the Carnegie Hall Screen Scoring series, Der Golem (2024) and Wara Wara (2025), the Ukrainian Music Festival (2024/2025), and PhysFest (2026). She can be heard in various recordings such as: The Journey by Lenny White (2023), l'origine du monde by Hughes Dufort (2023), Clarinet Quintet by Caleb J. Both (2024), Dimension Intervention by Theodore Vidal (2025), and Lift Up Thine Ears by Michael Daugherty (2025). She is currently teaching privately, a faculty member for NYMA Academy, and a clarinetist in Collegium Musicum New York, led by Elle Sunmin Lee.
Marilyn Farias is from rural south-central Wisconsin, but currently resides in Jersey City, New Jersey, pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Rutgers University. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Clarinet Performance from New York University and her Bachelor's Degree, double majoring in Clarinet Performance and Spanish, in 2023 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
